Mr. Matthias Cuypers began his law studies in the bilingual track (FR/NED) at KU Leuven in collaboration with Université Saint-Louis - Bruxelles. He subsequently obtained his Master of Laws degree from KU Leuven in 2021. During his Master's, he spent a semester at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) where he first encountered asylum and migration law. He was also part of the moot court team that won the ‘Concours Interuniversitaire de droit international humanitaire de la Croix-Rouge de Belgique 2021’ and placed second in the ‘Fritz Kalshoven Competition on International Humanitarian Law 2021’.

In 2022, he obtained an LLM from the Geneva Academy for International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, after which he gained his first experience as a volunteer in international humanitarian law at Rode Kruis Vlaanderen.

Currently, he is also affiliated with the Institute for International Law at KU Leuven as an academic assistant.

He joined our team in April 2023.
