After studying Philosophy at Ghent University, Roel began his career in socio-cultural work as a campaigner for Vredesactie. At Tractie, he supported various civil society organizations and activist groups as a trainer. He also worked as an OKAN teacher and lecturer in Social Orientation, and was involved in various social movements and organizations.

Over time, his interest in the legal field grew, leading him to study Law at Ghent University. There, he specialized in human rights, international law, and migration law. He obtained his degree in 2023.

With this background, Roel further developed his expertise in migration law, first at CAW Oost-Vlaanderen and then in legal practice. He has been part of the Antigone Advocaten team since November 2025.
